Sure, there were people in the program doing high-6 and low-7 figures per year… but that wasn’t what I was out for. The thought of making a reliable $5K per month & not having to worry about clocking in to a 9-to-5 ever again was all I needed. So I searched! And searched… and searched… and searched…Īnd eventually, I somehow stumbled upon a program that promised to help me build an income online ( read about it here if you’re curious). ![]() Maybe those things had worked for others, but for me it all turned up a fat “0” in the bank account department. I knew I was destined for something more, but I had no clue how I was going to make it happen. In early 2020, I had just graduated from college & had no real career prospects. Neuroimaging studies show differences in the brain structure and central nervous system of people with schizophrenia. Problems with certain naturally occurring brain chemicals, including neurotransmitters called dopamine and glutamate, may contribute to schizophrenia. It's not known what causes schizophrenia, but researchers believe that a combination of genetics, brain chemistry and environment contributes to development of the disorder. I would say, more than anything, the thing I miss moving from the MacBook Pro to the Air is the ports. In fact, it shouldn’t go unremarked upon that the arrival of the new 14-inch signaled the merciful end to that particular technology, as the last Touch Bar Mac - the 13-inch Pro - was replaced by the new 14-inch model. That means finally updating the camera, building a better keyboard (the class action settlement probably tipped the scales as well) and ditching the well-meaning but ultimately ineffectual Touch Bar altogether. That certainly applies here.Īlong with building new chips, Apple has spent the last few years listening to consumers in a way it hadn’t for decades. There’s no such thing as a future-proofed laptop, so the best you can hope for is one that will give you good mileage. It’s true that Apple is currently on a one-year upgrade cycle for it first-party M-series chips, but it’s genuinely tough to imagine and advanced as pronounced as the one it made from Intel to in-house silicon happening any time soon. It’s certainly a system that’s likely to last you a while. We’re talking about a real investment here for you - or better yet, your company. That’s a pretty hefty increase from the base level 14- and 16-inch models, which run $1,600 and $2,500 to start.Īpple lowered the barrier of entry for the lowest end model, but - as ever - upgrades start to add up quickly. If you want to bump the memory and storage up to 128GB and 8TB, respectively, it comes to $7,200. That also means 48GB of memory and 1TB of storage by default. Again, the one I am typing this on falls into the latter camp. The Max comes in both 14-core CPU/30-core GPU and 16-core CPU/40-core GPU flavors. The company, understandably, likes to put its best foot forward with this stuff (so yes, it’s also the Space Black model). Presumably an M3 Ultra is also on the way in the not-too-distant future, but will almost certainly be confined to desktops like the Mac Studio, and Mac Pro, owing to the limitations of system architectures. What announcing the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max at once affords the company, however, is options - though less so for the M3-only iMac.īetween the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, you’ve got all three configurations covered. The supply chain ultimately thought different(ly). That latter bit marked a big departure for the company, following rumors that Apple had planned the initial M3 launch for WWDC. The new MacBook Pro, which goes on sale this week, was announced at last week’s Scary Fast event, alongside a new iMac and - of course - several members of the M3 line. ![]() I would recommend against taking your work (and large laptop) home with you every night, but you do you. When it’s time to take your work home (assuming you don’t live in France), you can pop it in your bag and take it with you. The chip also affords the laptop the ability to power up to four external displays, making it a fine workstation option for many. That is to say that the M3 Max is plenty powerful for even most professional uses. I’ve begun thinking of the 16-inch MacBook Pro as something more along the lines of a portable desktop. It’s thin, it’s light, it has more than enough processing power for 95% of the things 95% of people need, and it won’t wrestle you for the arm rest. This is due partially to an ongoing back injury, but frankly, for as good as the Pro’s battery life is ( very good, for the record), the Air is a much better travel companion. I’m hopping on another cross-country flight tomorrow, and I’m planning to leave the 16-inch Pro at home. After opening the box, I immediately ported all the contents over from the 15-inch Air I’ve been using daily for several months now, but still, the 16-inch MacBook Pro feels like a different species.Įach has their place. A little bit more dangerously drinkable at 8%.” ![]() “It’s a little bit different recipe, slightly different hop profile. Untappd check-ins and comments in online forums compare Sip “to when it was brewed in Vermont.” Although he acknowledges that the two beers share DNA, Sean says Sip of Sunshine has only ever been brewed at Two Roads. There is often confusion over Sip of Sunshine’s likeness to Double Sunshine. That’s how I developed Double Sunshine, through the use of those hops-and that was by far the most sought-after beer I made.” It was the beginning of this shift to a more fruit-forward profile, with hops like Citra and Mosaic. “I wanted to make a beer that was like Double Sunshine, but not try to replicate it exactly. “It's a new facility, new place, new story, so let’s make a new beer,” Sean says of the decision. “One thing Sean was adamant about from the beginning was that he would differentiate what we brewed for him from what he produced at his Vermont brewery,” Markowski says. Still, a pivotal question remained: what would they brew? Sean and Karen bounced ideas off each other, carefully deliberating the recipe. Equally attractive to Sean was the soft, low-mineral profile of the water in Stratford, Connecticut, which was almost identical to the water Sean had been brewing with, and which produced his desired flavor profile. To Sean, Two Roads checked all the boxes: it offered Lawson’s the freedom to use its own processes and ingredients, brand-new brewing equipment, and the oversight of a talented brewmaster. After all, these are their products, not ours.” We prefer that our customers direct us on exactly how they want us to produce their products. “It was soon evident that Sean was really particular about each aspect of the process, and that he would be directly involved at every turn. “We had a series of discussions about the process and how we handle the logistics of brewing for other people,” Markowski remembers. In addition to producing its own beer, Two Roads’ business model included contract brewing specifically for craft brewers (a contrast to other businesses that pursue contract brewing primarily to absorb their excess capacity). Sean initiated a conversation with Phil Markowski, Two Roads Brewing Company’s master brewer and co-founder, through mutual friend Paul Sayler, of Zero Gravity Craft Brewery in Burlington. “I spent a lot of time very methodically thinking this through, researching and contemplating what we’re going to do,” he says. In 2013, as Sean was contemplating the brewery’s next step, contract brewing was just starting to gain traction. Once a file is on the internet, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to remove it once and for all. South Korea’s highly digitized society and lightning-fast internet speeds make it easy to circulate illicit footage. Technology and its uses continually outpace political and social reforms. Korea is a society of advanced technology - it boasts some of the most robust internet infrastructure in the world - but it is also a place where custom and tradition have a powerful influence on social norms and public policy. Well into the era of #MeToo, Seo-yeon and her contemporaries found themselves at a crossroads between privacy protection and crime prevention, echoing the many battles that have played out as more governments around the world introduce legislation meant to curb online crime. Sometimes they ended in suicide.Īs Ha Yena, she became part of a small but significant network of people in South Korea who are fighting to prevent digital sex crimes, sometimes at the expense of enacting questionable privacy laws. She went by the nom de guerre Ha Yena for her activist work educating the public and law enforcement about the real-world consequences of those digital crimes: they endangered children, triggered stalking incidents and provoked immense psychological harm. Seo-yeon formed a group called Digital Sex Crimes Out, an organization that, from 2017 through early 2022, sought harsher laws against illegal filming and digital sex crimes in South Korea. Instead, she wanted to find a way to stop these crimes from happening. ![]() Seo-yeon herself never found out what happened to the photos taken of her. Other times they were distributed across social media by embittered former partners. Most often those images and videos were taken by strangers. Some of Seo-yeon’s friends soon became targets of digital sex crimes too, their intimate images leaked online by strangers with pinhole cameras lurking in bathrooms or subway stations or motel rooms. But today, stories about camera installations for illegal filming still make headlines weekly. The country’s now-former president, Moon Jae-in, soon thereafter acknowledged that illegal spy cameras had become “part of daily life.” That same year, thousands took to the streets, demanding legislative action on molka crimes as part of the global #MeToo movement. In 2018, a man was found to possess 20,000 illegally-captured videos when he was arrested for installing spy cameras in motel rooms. This type of covert filming even has its own name: “molka” in Korean, meaning mole camera, referring to both the camera and the footage. Despite years of public outrage and legislative efforts to curb digital sex crimes, the country remains home to a profitable industry that exploits non-consensual images of women, many of them underage, and even coerces them into sexual acts that are filmed and distributed online. Few institutions were available to assist Seo-yeon. But the response was telling.Īt only 17, Seo-yeon had reason to believe that she was the target of a digital sex crime and that the man would publish the photo of her, asleep, on one of the many thousands of sites that publish illegal photographs and videos of women. She later learned that he’d lied to her and shared the video from the incident with the police. But the owner offered little help, telling her there was no such footage. She rushed to the motel owner, urging him to call the police and asking if she could look at closed-circuit surveillance camera footage from the motel manager’s office. “I was very angry because my wallet was there and my money was there, too,” Seo-yeon told me. She figured he had picked the lock or gotten in some other way. She chased him out of the motel into the streets, but he was too fast, disappearing down a sidestreet. Seo-yeon leapt up, and the intruder ran off. He moved the phone from one hand to the other, readying a new angle as Seo-yeon’s partner slept at her side. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to predict where these “stops” may be? That’s what moving averages often do. ![]() The higher lows are shallower pullbacks at which the price “stops” before continuing its uptrend. As this process repeats, the net outcome is a stock that is making higher highs and higher lows. While many seasoned traders can visualize price trends just by looking at their stock charts, it helps to have a definitive indicator that quantifies the trend as well as its components, support and resistance.Īs a stock moves up, you will notice how the pullbacks tend to stop at certain price range before resuming another thrust up.
